ALLERGIES IS THE INAPPROPRIATE IMMUNE RESPONSE OF A PERSON TO HARMLESS SUBSTANCES COMING IN CONTACT WITH THE BODY OR ENTERING THE BODY FROM THE ENVIRONMENT OR IN FOOD AND MEDICINE.

A specialist in the treatment of allergy is called the Allergist. the substance that causes allergic reactions are called as Allergens. They are generally weak antigens. the common allergens are dust, dust mites, cats saliva, pollen, Mould spores, feathers, fur, food (milk ,egg, fish )and drugs .

Some 10% of human populations suffer from allergies. Allergic reaction depends on the nature of allergen.

The common reactions are inflammation of mucous membrane, sneezing gasping, running eyes, irritation of upper respiratory tract throat and trachea, itching skin, rash and many more.

To cure allergy its specific allergens must be found out and it is not an easy job. The allergy seem to result from improper immune mechanism. First exposure to an allergen does not cause allergy it is called sensitizing dose.

On next exposure to allergy the body shows a secondary immune response called allergy or hypersensitive response. this is termed the shocking dose.

Various forms of Allergy-

Hay fever- if the pollen is antigen the areas affected are the mucous membranes of eyes and nose the allergic reactions result in swollen, reddening, running eyes and nose this condition is called hay fever and antihistamine field give relief.

Asthma- if allergic reaction occurs farther down in the respiratory tract, the tissue surrounding the tubes leading to lungs swell up and compresses the to the movement of air to the lungs through these tubes is embedded, this condition is asthma. the treatment of asthma is also an antihistamine.

Anaphylactic shock-allergic reaction may occur in all the tissues of the body. such a reaction is very serious and is called anaphylactic shock. the antigen maybe some poison such as bee sting, some injection such as penicillin, or some food taken orally. Antihistamine is very effective.
