So, it's official then! The Canadian government, including the immigration Minister Sean Fraser and provincial leaders, announced that Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP), with a change name Atlantic Immigration Program, a permanent immigration program started on January 1st, 2022.

The past two years have badly affected many countries' business economies as it completely stopped the immigration service reference to the increasing number of Covid-19 cases. The shortage of workers and laborers has impacted the country's demand and supply of products and services amongst buyers and suppliers.

Countries like Canada have been badly affected by this as the worker's immigration number has touched the lowest point during these years. This led the federal government of Canada to launch a new permanent immigration program named Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP), starting from January 1st, 2022, to ease the immigration process.

With the help of AIP, around 6,000 newcomers can come to Atlantic Canada regions (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island) every year to boost the overall infrastructure, trade, and investment.

What is Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP)?

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) is specially designed to welcome talented newcomers around the globe to fulfill the local business requirement of the Atlantic Canada regions.

It was launched in 2017, and since then, it has shown tremendous improvements in immigration as it brought nearly 10 000 immigrants in the following year to Atlantic Canada regions.

With the help of AIP, business owners have the upper hand in recruiting talented personalities suitable to their business module. Not only for work purposes, but this program allows the authorities to improve their population growth, skilled workforce, and employment rates for a vast and robust economy.

How Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) works?

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) is a full-fledged employer-driven program that allows them to hire foreign national who meets the eligibility criteria relevant to their job offers. To fulfill the job vacancy within a short period, the employer can send them a job confirmation letter for a quick and hassle-free immigration procedure.

Upon confirmation, the employer needs to connect the candidate to the province provider for documentation and other formalities. Once the candidate meets the eligibility criteria, they will refer back to the employer for ensuring them long-term settlement plan to meet the business goal.

Overall the immigrants need to carry three essential documents before applying for a Canada Work Visa through Atlantic Immigration Pilot:

  1. A valid job offer letter (Temporary/Full-time)
  2. A letter from the province
  3. Permanent residence commitment within 90 days of the temporary work permit application.

Likewise, the employer responsible for hiring new foreign immigrants needs to meet specific criteria, like a commitment to supporting newcomers and their families to the Atlantic Canada Regions.

Other Immigration Program:

Express Entry:

In January 2015, the Canadian government launched one of the advanced immigration programs called the Express Entry. The Express Entry immigration program was built on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), where the authorities select the candidates based on their CRS scores.

The Express Entry CRS score refers to the following factors:

  1. Relevant skill-set and work experience
  2. Education background
  3. Proficiency over English & French
  4. Education background and language skill of candidate's spouse or partner
  5. A valid job offer
  6. The government provisional for permanent residency

You are only welcome to the Atlantic Canada regions if you meet the above eligibility criteria.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow employers to hire a wide range of skilled workers, graduates who have studied in Canada, and business immigrants such as entrepreneurs as their business partners for the overall growth of their business.

Aligning with the Express Entry pool, employers have successfully added at least one foreign immigrant through the PNP stream.

The success behind Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP):

After the early success of the Provisional Nominee Program, Canada had struggled to retain foreign immigrants for a longer time. But, with the AIP immigration program announcement in 2017, the number has changed immensely, and the retention rate touched new heights.

The recent outbreak of the Covid-19 had contributed enough to decreasing those numbers to the Atlantic Canada regions in the past two years. Seeing the results, the Canadian government had decided to implement the AIP as a permanent immigration program to boost the overall immigration process to the Atlantic Canada regions.

Well, it was a decision made overnight. The Nova Scotia announcement over its population growth touched one million, including 5 696 immigrants in the first quarter through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) program. Also, a record 71% immigration retention happened during this tenure, the highest percentage in the Atlantic Canada regions.
