Life is not all about glamour and glitz for these famous celebrities. Right from Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio and Suhel Seth, Sonu Sood, Kapil Dev, Virat and Anushka; everyone believes in giving back to the society in some way or the other. Celebrities are looked up to as role models that address social causes and issues in our country – the cause could be anything that is close to their heart, has personally impacted a loved one or something that they really believe in. When famous personalities take up these important causes, unknowingly they end up encouraging people who follow them and send out social messages to the public.

Shabana Azmi

Shabana Azmi an actress with international acclamation and has also remained the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations. Not only is she a pool of talent but she is also closely connected with multiple social causes. In the recent past she took over her Late father’s founded NGO the “Mijwan Welfare Society (MWS). This NGO focuses on Village empowerment of a small village, Mijwan in Azamgarh UP where the famous poet, Kaifi Azmi was born. She is highly vocal and committed to social activism as a result of which she was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Award and the Yash Bhartiya award from the U.P. government. She is also the recipient of the coveted Padma Shri for excellence in her field and her distinguished contribution to the society.

 

Suhel Seth 

A renowned philanthropist Suhel Seth plays his part through multiple foundations and causes that he believes in. In 2015 he was felicitated by Giving Back Foundation, an NGO alongside Hollywood actress Phylicia Rashad, for actively contributing to and ushering social change in India. Suhel Seth is also known for his generous contribution to the partition museum in Amritsar as the city is close to his heart being his parents’ birthplace. He is also closely associated with healthcare foundations such as Max and the Indian Head Injury Foundation by being on their board. He is the Chairman of Ila Trust, a non-profit that provides health check-ups and medicines for free to the needy.

 

Kapil Dev

Khushii was started by the cricket legend, Kapil Dev, in 2003, which helps in the positive transformation of the underprivileged kids via imparting education.  Over 25000 needy children receive educational support, counselling, recreation, mid-day meals, medical facilities and value-based education via Khushii's Shikshaantra project. Kapil Dev acknowledged his privileged background and was in that stage of his life where his focus was not only being constructive but doing something ‘needed’ by the society. He came together with a bunch of influential volunteers who chose to capitalise on their goodwill & popularity to create a better world. Kapil Dev incepted Khushii in 2004 the founder of VLCC Health Care, Vandana Luthra, the founder and Chairman of Neemrana Hotels, Aman Nath among others. He strongly believes that the core of most issues in India is the lack of proper education and imparting that became his social mission.
