Nobody is an expert in anything. There is always something to learn. There are things that we overlook while we are casually using a tool. Apple’s popular audio and video player is one such tool where many of its features remain unknown.

Do you want to know about these features? So, cutting right to the chase, here are some ways to help you master iTunes.

Up Next

Suppose you want to listen to Eminem, Katy Perry, Shakira, and Imagine Dragons one after the other throughout the entire day. How would you go about it? I know creating a playlist solves the problem, but there is a better way.

Click on the context menu button (three dots) displayed right next to the song which you want to listen to other than the one currently playing. Click on the Play Next option. It will push all other songs in the playlist at the back. You can also select Add to Up Next queue to play the song after all the songs in the Up Next queue have been played.

Find the Songs You Don’t Listen to

Do you skip a bunch of tracks so that you can get to the track you want to listen to? There are always songs which you used to like, but nowadays you don’t really care about anymore. You can find such tracks from the lists which are made up of songs that you skip while your playlist is played.

Go to my music screen. Click on Songs from the drop-down list to your right. Then click on skips to view the list of songs that you had skipped.

Use Comments to Classify

There is a comment option with every song, movie, and TV show. You can use it to classify them in whichever way you like. You can classify them as “Thriller Movies,” “Uplifting Songs,” “Audio Books” or any other way that would suit you. Just drop a tag in the comments.

Keep Movies in Priority

Suppose you are watching a movie- “Snowden,” you certainly wouldn’t appreciate any Firefox or Adobe pop-ups. It throws the intensity of the film out of the window, and you have to establish it once again. You would dislike it, right? I indeed would.

Go to preferences. Click on Advanced Settings. Then, mark- ‘Keep the movie window on top of all other windows.’

Make Your Own Album or Movie Poster

Do you want to be creative with your favorite films? Imagine you have imported a Blu-ray DVD version of the “Inception,” now if you want, you can create your own poster for “Inception,” which will then represent the film in your library.

Click on Get info dialog box and head over to the Artwork section. You can then load your own poster and enjoy the feel of being an artist.

Discover Duplicate Items

Duplicate items can eat your space as well as distort your playlist, which you have made with great effort. Click on the View menu and go to the Show Duplicate Items options. Hold Shift key or Option key while keeping the view menu open to access exact duplicates of album names as well.

Mark Your Favorite Songs

You might have 100-500 songs in your library. You surely would like them to varying degrees. There is an option to make a certain song as your favorite. Just place ticks next to your favorite tracks.

You can also play your favorite songs by ticking Match only ticked items in your smart playlist. By doing that, you will miss out on the songs you don’t want to hear.

The tips mentioned above will put you fully in charge of Apple’s media giant, iTunes.
