The GRE General Test, also known as the Graduate Record Examination General Test, is a standardized exam administered by ETS. GRE Exam Eligibility Criteria
The GRE exam is pretty flexible in student eligibility. The ETS doesn't prescribe eligibility criteria, and anyone can register for this GRE exam, irrespective of age or qualifications. Candidates applying for master's courses require a GRE exam score to apply to highly accoladed colleges.
One primary clause that many of the official guide to the GRE test includes is to meet the admission criteria of respective grad schools without fail before filling out the application. Moreover, you'll also be required to possess a valid passport as proof of identity at the GRE exam center.
GRE Eligibility: Age Limit
As of now, there is no age limit set for candidates wanting to appear for their GRE test.
GRE Eligibility: Exam Qualification
ETS has not announced any official statement regarding the qualification required to appear for the GRE Exam. However, candidates are expected to possess a graduate degree from a recognized university in any discipline.
Identification Required:
- When registering for the GRE general test, make sure that the first and last name entered in the form match the name on your official ID – in India, a passport.
- The first and last names will only be checked. It is not necessary to use your middle name or initial.
- If your name does not match the ID, or if you are unable to produce the ID due to political asylum, being a refugee, or for any other reason, you should not apply for the exam until you have received approval from ETS.
- The ID presented at the testing location should:
- Be an original document – no photocopies or facsimiles
- Photocopies or digital copies of original documents will not be accepted.
- Be current – expired documents are not accepted as proof of identity.
- Include a recent photograph as well as your first and last name as they appeared when you registered for the test.
- Add your signature to the document.
- The following steps may be included in the ID verification process at the testing center:
- Biometrics and photographs
- Thumb printing or fingerprinting
- Videotaping
- Signature comparison.
Grad Schools have their own Eligibility Requirements
While the GRE exam has no eligibility requirements, some of the top schools do have stringent requirements in terms of courses students must complete, GPA requirements, and GRE scores. This is why it is critical for all college applicants to examine the finer points of each college's application. When you fall short of the required score or GPA, LOR and SOP can make a difference. Exam candidates should research whether or not the university they intend to attend accepts GRE 2022 scores.
