Gosaikunda Lake Trek is the nearest trek from Kathmandu to see nice snow caps and feel the real life of the mountain. This trek is also known as the Gosaikunda pilgrimage trek and the Gosaikuda frozen lake trek. This Gosaidkunda trek lies in Langtang National Park.
There are several lakes with a blue color. All the lakes will freeze from winter until spring. Gosaikunda is a Hindu and Buddhist pilgrimage site where every year in August there will be a special festival (holy thread festival) when a lot of Hindu people from different locations in Nepal visit to worship the god Shiva. Gosaikunda is the spring of the Trisuli River. Trisuli comes from the word Trisul (weapon of Shiva). The Gosaikunda Trek is one of the less crowded treks in Nepal.
This trek starts from Dhunche and follows some traditional Tamang villages: Syabru and Bharkhu. Chandanbari, with its yak cheese factory and beautiful monastery, is magnificent. And the trek ends in Dhunche. There are lots of attractions for the Gosainkunda trek.
There are more than 300 types of birds, wildlife, and cultures. The best view of the Himalayan range of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, and Langtang is from Lauribinayak. Some Tibetan mountains and beautiful lakes are also part of the Gosaikunda Lake Trek.
The vegetation, green hills, and rhododendrons (the Nepali national flower) are like magnets to visitors in spring. The people on this trek are Tamang. They welcome you well. The site is Hindu, although the people of this area are Buddhist. So you can see several monasteries along the way. You can have fresh yak cheese from Chandanbari and visit the factory. Apples and potatoes are famous farming items from the Gosainkunda Trek. You may walk about 300m higher to the top of the Lauribina La pass from Gosainkunda and turn back down to Dhunche.
