For proper use of the equipment and the safety of the workers, there are several dos and don’t that need to be followed when you are dealing with a hanging gondola.
What you should be doing
- At the ends of the anchor, secure all the ropes tightly.
- Before operating, check for any signs of damaged ropes.
- See to it that the power source is properly grounded.
- When the gondola is not used, secure the platform carefully.
- Before using it, check that all the safety brakes and switches, stops, and the entire equipment is functioning properly.
- For each worker, make use of the correct and functional fall arrest systems. All the workers must be trained well before using the fall arrest systems.
- To support the cornice hooks or outriggers, see to it that the parapet wall or the roof is structurally sound!
- Ensure that the toe boards and the guard rails are in place.
What you should never do
- Until and unless all the workers on the platform are protected and secured with a good fall arrest system, never try to move it.
- For lowering or raising materials or tools, never use the fall arrest systems.
- Until and unless the platforms come with such an instruction, never join them.
- Don’t remove, alter or substitute the parts of the platform.
- Don’t work near exposed equipment or electrical circuits.
