Hokkaido dogs are excellent companions for kids of any age or size. However, it's best if they grew up with your children or early, proper socialization was done. These beautiful, medium-sized dogs are strong— they can play to any degree with people of any size. And if your kids have been taught early about the proper way of interacting with these pups, Hokkaido may be the best guards and playmates for kids.

The case may be different for other pets. Cats, hamsters, and other small animals are better off without Hokkaido dogs around. As natural hunters, you can't simply take away their instincts. On the other hand, Hokkaido can learn to get along with their fellow pups, given early socialization. They may also prowl and crouch, which others may see as a sign of aggression, although it's just the way they play. Overall, early socialization and training are the keys for these dogs to get along well with their fellow pups and kids.
