Stress is normal, but if it isn't recognized or dealt with, it can make it hard to do things in everyday life.

As April (Stress Awareness Month) ends and May (Mental Health Awareness Month) begins, we've put together six ways to deal with stress, as well as examples of women-owned businesses that are coming up with new ways to help people feel better and calm down when times are tough.

  1. Take good care of your body.

Even though it may seem obvious, one of the best ways to deal with stress is to walk, jog, plant, or do anything else that gets you moving experience. The Mayo Clinic says that almost any kind of physical activity can help reduce stress. It also says that exercise boosts your endorphins and other natural brain chemicals that make you feel good. It also helps to eat a range of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Tone It Up, which was started by Karena Dawn and Katrina Scott, is one of many women-owned businesses in the wellspace. It offers exercise programs, nutritional supplements (Target sells its protein powders), and a place to meet other women to keep you motivated.

Sunbasket is a service that sends you recipes and ingredients for making healthy meals at home. It was started by Justine Kelly, a cook in San Francisco, and is a part of a company called Blue Apron. The company also says that it is aware of its carbon effect and tries to send just the right amount of food for each meal so that less food is wasted.

  1. Go to therapy or counseling every week.

Even people who don't have a mental health problem can benefit from therapy. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, many treatment services have gone online, making it easier than ever to go to regular sessions over the phone or video chat.

Alyssa Musket and Vittoria Bergeron started Sesh, a tech company for qualified therapists to lead group therapy sessions. Sesh has sessions about sadness, anxiety, relationships, parenting, careers, and more. In 2020, the company finished a seed funding round for $3 million, and Musket and Bergeron were named to Forbes' list of 30 Under 30.

The goal of Dr. Jude Black, who started E-Therapy Cafe, is to make therapy easier to get when it's needed most. After working for a company called Cope Today, where she helped military officers and their families, Black started her own company to help people with different therapy needs through the Internet.
