Well, to use this feature, you will need to use a desktop or iOS version of the Design Space software. This should be noted that the Android app doesn’t support this feature.

With these Cricut machines, you can use the Print then Cut feature:

  • Cricut Explore 3

How to Use the Cricut Print Then Cut Feature?

At first, it seemed like a difficult feature of the Cricut machine. But with the right guidance and support, you can use it effortlessly and create various impressive projects for yourself. So, get ready to follow the process to create amazing crafts.

Things you need to use the Print then Cut feature:

  • Design Space software installed on Windows, Mac, or iOS devices.
  • Cricut machine compatible with that feature
  • Quality home printer
  • Necessary printable materials

By using all these items, you can start using the Print then Cut feature. Here are the necessary steps that you will need to follow to use the Print then Cut feature.

Step 1: Upload the File (Which You Want to Print Then Cut)

As a first step, you have to upload the file, an image that you want to print and cut. Generally, PNG files are used in this feature as the Cricut Design Space App doesn’t allow SVG files due to the patterns inside the layers. Therefore, if you want to use an SVG file, you need to flatten it before uploading.

To upload the file, tap the Upload icon and select your file. When it is finally uploaded, you can see it at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Insert Images

You first need to click the image you want and tap the Insert Images button at the bottom right side of the screen. Adding images will help you to create a new project.

Step 3: Resize the Images for Printing

In this step, you need to resize the image so that you can print them easily. Hence, you should ensure that your images are not bigger than that. Look at this image; it’s in portrait mode and adjusts the width to 6.75. However, if you want the banner larger, you can split the image into individual parts and resize them one by one. Note that you cannot print larger than 9.25″ X 6.75.”

Step 4: Send the File to the Printer

After adjusting the images to their size, you can hit the Make It button on the right-hand side of the screen. Once you do that, it will create a black box around the image, just like in this one. Then, tap the Continue button. After that, a prompt window will pop up, asking you to print the file. So, now you have to send the file to your home printer.

Step 5: Cut Out the Printed File

Once you printed the file successfully, you need to cut apart your printed file using the Cricut machine. This step looks familiar, right? With the machine, it’s easy to cut your printed image as you just need to go with the prompts. To cut them, load the Print on the cutting mat and load it in the Cricut machine. Then, set the correct material and let it run the cut. After that, your machine will scan and print the cut lines automatically. You only need to go with the instructions in the program.

Note: Recognize which material needs what type of Cricut mat, as the machine can tear down your material if it’s delicate.

Finally, you have made it. Applying this feature, you can create thousands of creative projects in a very short time.

Which Printer to Use for Cricut Print Then Cut Feature?

The Print then Cut feature is a good way to start creating amazing DIY projects. However, you should pay attention to the type of printer you are using. You can work with a home printer that can print in color. There are no particular models to suggest, but you should be familiar with two types of printers.

Inkjet Printers

Inkjet printers are recommended for printing your files. These printers use ink cartridges and small nozzles to spread fine ink droplets onto your material. It can be used with a variety of printable materials, such as printable vinyl, sticker paper, printable iron-on, etc.

Laser Printers

Laser printers use high heat to print the material. Therefore, it cannot be used for printing heat-sensitive materials, including printable vinyl and iron-on. Laser printers work well for common printer paper, card stock, and some special materials which are made specifically to use with laser printers. So, inkjet printers are recommended as they are compatible with various materials and print your material gracefully.
