Jadon Sancho return to Dortmund confirmed with Man Utd nightmare over

Manchester United outcast Jadon Sancho has sealed his return on loan to Borussia Dortmund after arriving back at the Bundesliga giants on Wednesday evening

Jadon Sancho's Manchester United nightmare is over after he completed his loan move to Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho has returned to his former club on a deal until the end of the season. The England winger had been desperate to leave United following his public bust-up with Erik ten Hag.

Sancho has found himself frozen out since October and was even made to train alone. Ten Hag criticised Sancho's poor attitude in training, before the winger hit back to accuse his boss of telling lies about him.

Ten Hag refused to pick him again unless Sancho apologised and showed contrition. But the 23-year-old refused and made it his mission to leave United in this month's transfer window.

Dortmund were willing to take him back, having sold Sancho to United in a £73m deal in the summer of 2021. The Bundesliga club will pay an initial loan fee of €3.5m, rising to €7.5m depending on the number of Sancho's appearances and Dortmund's success in the Champions League.

Sancho said: “When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like ‘coming home'. I know the club inside and out, I've always been very close with the fans here, and I've never lost contact with those in charge.

“I can’t wait to see my team-mates again, go out on the pitch, play football with a smile on my face, prepare goals, score goals and help qualify for the Champions League.”

As reported earlier this week, there will be no option for Dortmund to make the deal permanent next summer. Both clubs will share the burden of Sancho's £250,000-a-week wages.

United bosses are hoping Sancho recovers his form and fitness in the second half of the season, to boost their chances of selling him to the highest bidder in the summer.

A Manchester United statement read: “Manchester United forward Jadon Sancho has rejoined former club Borussia Dortmund on loan until the end of the season. The 23-year-old spent four seasons with the Bundesliga team from 2017, registering 50 goals and 64 assists, before completing a transfer to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.

“Sancho has made 82 Reds appearances so far, scoring 12 goals across all competitions and winning the Carabao Cup in 2023.

“Sancho will now return to Germany on a temporary basis as Borussia Dortmund prepare to resume their Bundesliga campaign after a winter break.

“The England international of 23 caps leaves with our best wishes for the remainder of this season.”
