Jordan Henderson brutally slammed by former Premier League star after Ajax transfer

Jordan Henderson has been on the end of a scathing review from former Netherlands international and Tottenham star Rafael Van der Vaart following his move to Ajax last month

Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart has launched a harsh critique on Jordan Henderson, saying he brings “zero quality” to Ajax after his recent transfer.

Henderson, the former Liverpool captain, moved to Amsterdam from Saudi Arabia after a disappointing stint with Al-Ettifaq, hoping to revive his career. However, he hasn't managed to lead Ajax to victory in any of his first four matches, earning him a harsh review from ex-Netherlands international and Tottenham star Rafael Van der Vaart.

Van der Vaart went as far as to say that “nobody” would be pleased with Henderson's start at Ajax. Speaking on Dutch television, Van der Vaart said (via the Mirror): “Ajax have brought in players with zero quality.”

“The club will now have to see out the rest of the season. They have brought in Jordan Henderson. All he does is to play a little pass out wide, or a little pass back. But nobody will be happy with that.”

“You'll see on Thursday that they will get through their Conference League tie against Bodo/Glimt with all the luck in the world. Afterwards it's best for them to get knocked out, and to make a fresh start next season.” As an Ajax man my heart bleeds. I don't know what I can say about them any more.”

Ajax, the usual top dogs in Dutch football, have been having a tough time this season. They're currently fifth in the league, a whopping 26 points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven. In their last Europa Conference League match, Henderson's team narrowly avoided a 2-0 loss to Norwegian team Bodo/Glimt. They managed to score two goals in the final moments of the game, saving them from defeat.

But the troubles didn't stop there. When Ajax played NEC Nijmegen at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday, they let their lead slip in the 94th minute and ended up drawing 2-2.

Van der Vaart, who spent 12 years at Ajax, including seven in their famous academy, knows the club well. In his final season with the European giants, he was captain before moving on to play for Hamburg, Real Madrid and Spurs.
