Total game sales at 40 casinos in Macau reportedly hit a three-year high of $33.01 billion, thanks in large part to a resurgence in the number of high-yield players.
Annual results are up 19% year-over-year and almost 15.2% higher than the $28.68 billion figure, according to a report by Reuters News Service, which cited official figures from the Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau.
It was down 24.4% from total gaming revenue of $43.67 billion recorded in 2014 and just 26.3% lower than total gaming revenue of $44.82 billion.
According to figures from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, Macau's total gaming revenue in December reportedly reached $2.82 billion, up 14.6% year-on-year, and October was the most profitable month of the year, rising 22.1% to $3.31 billion.
Reuters also reported that Macao's total annual gaming revenue was higher by operators such as Melco Resorts and Entertainment Limited and Galaxy Entertainment Group Limited, as well as local subsidiaries of U.S. casino giants Wynn Resorts Limited and Las Vegas Sands Corporation because of their real estate performance in the wealthy Cotai Strip.
In addition, the news service reported that previous Portuguese residential SJM Holdings Limited and MGM China Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Las Vegas-based MGM Resorts International, had eroded their market share due to their lack of presence in Cotay Streep. But the latter is set to begin developing a $3 billion MGM cotai later this month, with the latter expected to open the nearby Grand Lisboa Palace venue closer together.
