One of India's most competent and reasonably priced off-road vehicles is the Mahindra Thar. The new alterations to this 4×4 vehicle, nevertheless, may have been brought on by efforts to reduce costs. The Mahindra Thar's conventional MLD (Manually Locking Rear Differential) has been subtly removed by the SUV maker.

Using a switch on the dashboard, MLD, which is at the back axle, is operated. When MLD is engaged, both rear wheels of the Thar are mechanically connected, distributing the same amount of power to each wheel in the event that the vehicle becomes stuck on a challenging off-road path. For off-roading, it is therefore a crucial equipment.

MLD used to be a requirement for all 4×4 variations. The top-spec LX diesel models from Thar are the only ones that still offer it as an option. Since the majority of customers choose the diesel-powered edition of the Thar for off-road excursions, this function has been deleted from the petrol variants of the vehicle. Nevertheless, all variations still come with various off-road options as standard, including an automatic hub lock and a low-range transmission.

In every other way, both mechanically and aesthetically, the Thar is still the same. Price changes have no impact either, in addition. The impact of MLD being removed from several trims on Mahindra Thar sales is yet unknown. In competition with the Force Gurkha, the SUV is now priced at Rs 13.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Notably, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny as well as the five-door variants of both cars are anticipated to reach the market in 2019.
