Tyler O'Neill (Boston), the first MLB player to hit a home run in the opening game for five consecutive years
Major League Baseball (MLB) Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O'Neal achieved a new MLB record with a home run in the opening game for the fifth consecutive year.
O'Neal hit a one-run home run from Cody Bolton in the top of the 8th inning with a 5-4 lead in the 2024 MLB visiting game against the Seattle Mariners held at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA on the 29th (Korean time).
O'Neill's one shot became the key point as the team won 6-4.
According to Elias Sports, a sports data specialist, O'Neill is the first player to hit a home run in the MLB opening game for five consecutive years.
The record of four consecutive home runs in the opening game was held by four people: Yogi Berra (1955-58, New York Yankees), Gary Carter (1977-80, Montreal Expos), and Todd Hundley (1994-97, New York Mets).
O'Neill, who hit a home run in the opening game for four consecutive years as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals from 2020 to last year, changed his uniform to Boston this year and went over the fence again, showing off his ‘opening game man' appearance.
MLB.com described it as, “If you need a home run before Opening Day, O'Neal will be your man.” 19가이드03
