CONCACAF Development Director Jason Roberts hosted the event, which included remarks from Concacaf President and FIFA World Cup 2022 Vice President Victor Montagliani, Houston Mayor Pro-Tem Dave Martin, Qatar World Cup Association General Secretary Mansoor Al Ansari, and Generation Amazing Programs Director Nasser Al Khari.
After the opening remarks, Montagliani handed over a sealed memorial ball to the General Manager of Generation Amazing, Mushtaq Al Wali, to mark the official launch of the program. The launch of our program during the Houston Youth Development Football Summit this summer was a good sign of our long-term goals of working together to help improve the lives of thousands of young people and CONCACAF throughout their member organization, Al Khori said.
It was very encouraging to see the positive impact of the activities on the children affected, and we look forward to reaching more beneficiaries in the years to come across North and Central America. Participants from a variety of leagues and programs in Houston, including the Special Olympics, participated in football activities, which were presented by CONCACAF coaches. The event marked the beginning of a four-year joint venture between CONCACAF and Generation Amazing. Designed to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, this program uses a new ballad of social change approaches to promote equality and social inclusion.
As a coach who is always focused on youth development, I am very encouraged to see how Generation Amazing and CONCACAF come together to help young people in the CONCACAF region, said Bora Milutinovic, a two-time Gold Cup-winning coach who was present at work and encouraged children to learn about football. The work in Houston illustrated the power of football that inspires young people and transforms their lives and their communities for the better.
We look forward to following the progress of these young people in the years to come. The next stages of the program are set to reach the region by 2025, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in the CONCACAF region by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
