In a general sense, a Scottish Deerhound can interact well with children. But because of his overwhelming size, he’s not recommended to be a playmate for a toddler. Young kids may not know or understand how to behave around dogs, especially large ones. They might also be accidentally knocked down during play sessions because of the dogs’ size.

A Scottish Deerhound is more suited to stay in homes with old kids who know proper behaviors and manners. This dog doesn’t tolerate ear pulling, prodding, or poking. Thus, the interactions and play sessions between kids and a Scottish Deerhound must be supervised to prevent accidents and injuries.

Scottish Deerhound can interact fine with other household pets as well, such as cats and dogs of other breeds. He’s quiet and inactive when indoors. But when he accesses the outdoors, it’ll become a different story. He has a high prey drive and may run around the yard nonstop.

If you have any concerns about your pet's health and/or behavior, make an appointment with an animal hospital Chesapeake, VA.
