In this digital era, keeping privacy is not an easy thing. People use several apps on their iOS, macOS and Windows device, and most of them ask for the permission of using microphone, camera and location. So if anyone doesn’t want to give their information to the apps, they can look into the permission section and check which app has the permission.

Once you know the apps that are using camera, location and microphone and don’t want to give information anymore, you can change it whenever you want. Fortunately, opening app settings and checking their permission is pretty easy on macOS, Windows and iOS. So here’s the guide to check app permissions.

iOS

After installing an app, the permission bar appears on the screen. If you have already given permission to the app, and now want to change it, then you’ll have to open the settings. Scroll down in the Settings and a list of all installed apps will appear. Click on any app to get its permission details that you have granted after installation. Access to microphone, location and camera will appear in the following section.

The Camera and microphone permissions can get enabled and disabled anytime the user wants through a toggle switch. While in the Location permission, Never, Ask Next Time, While Using the App and Always option will appear. So make your choice by enabling and disabling the location tracking.

If you want to make changes on app permission again, you can open its settings and make changes. To turn off location tracking, you can also open Privacy>Location Services. In the Privacy section, the permission of other apps like Camera and Microphone can also be changed.

Android

To change the location, camera and microphone permissions, open Settings and move into the Privacy section. Click the Permission manager>Camera, Location, or Microphone and check their permissions. Open the app settings individually and make changes to their permission.

Second way to change app permission is open Apps and notifications in Settings, and press See all apps. Choose the preferred app and click on its Permissions to check what it’s accessing. If you previously denied any app’s permission, then you can reverse it too.

Just like iOS devices, you can open the app in Settings and control its settings. You can set the microphone and camera permissions to Ask every time, Allow only while using the app and can deny.

macOS

In laptop and desktop computers, tracking location won’t be a big problem because its apps don’t collect much data. However, it is still important for users to know where permission settings are, and what permissions apps have.

To check the app permission in macOS, open the Apple menu and move into System Preferences>Security & Privacy>Privacy. In the left side of the dialogue box, a list of app permissions will appear including microphone, location and camera. Tap on any app to see its permissions and to make changes.

Windows

Just like macOS, users don’t have to worry about their data leak and tracking location problem, but it is still necessary to know where the app’s settings are. To check up the app settings, open Settings from Start menu and press Privacy.

Or move into General and on the left panel, Camera, Location and Microphone app permission column will appear. Tap on any app to check its permissions. You can enable and disable microphone, camera and location permission of following apps.

Conclusion

Checking up the app permission is not difficult in OS. But if anyone doesn’t want to share their device’s location, they can directly move into device Location settings. Just like app permissions, users can change Site Settings by changing Cookies and site permissions on web browsers.
