Surprisingly, Austria is a fairly affordable place to live. My en-suite dorm room in Salzburg cost 280 euros in 2015, including all bills.

Food and public transportation were a little pricier but still less expensive than you'd anticipate if you were studying in the United Kingdom. Life is very simple now that you have a student loan from home plus an Erasmus grant!
