Are you looking for historical maps collection? The Map Archive developed out of a love of history and heritage of old maps.

Historical maps are an important tool for historians and other researchers to assess changes occurring over time.  Original maps also provide a window into how an era viewed the world it lived in.  The sources listed below provide access to images of originals and also to modern maps depicting historical events.

The Map Archive provides access to high resolution digital images of the Office of Coast Survey's archive of historic maps and charts. The collection contains historical maps and charts from the maps and charts from the 1650s to present day, including some of the nation's earliest nautical charts, hydrographic surveys, topographic surveys, geodetic surveys, city plans and Civil War battle maps

There are several types of historical maps, and they can be found in many places in the Libraries. Historical atlases, shelved with the other atlases, are generally our best source for showing conditions as they existed in the past. Also in the atlas section are a number of facsimile editions of early atlases published from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.

Many old maps of Long Island and New York State are kept in the Special Collections Department. Inventories of these are being put in this guide or are available through the Map Collection or Special Collections Librarians. See Popular Maps for Long Island Research, a tab in this subject guide.

A number of maps useful for historical research are filed with the U.S. and foreign topographic maps. These include early editions of U.S.G.S. quadrangle maps and nineteenth century maps of Germany and the Habsburg Empire.

Several hundred rare and historical maps of the region are housed in Special Collections. These maps have been given careful treatment and are encapsulated for protection and extended use. They have been identified as a part of the Northeastern California Collection and as such, may be found on the online catalog. The catalog's advance search page allows you to limit your search to the material type “maps”. You can find ancient greece map, ancient egypt map, ancient roman empire map, byzantine empire map and many other maps at The Map Archive store.

The map collection includes Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, Official County maps and surveys. Reproductions of historical BLM platts and many other interesting and unique maps, charts, and atlases.
