The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is a eight-day rodeo and livestock show held in Rapid City, SD. The event brings thousands of people to the area and features PRCA cowboys and cowgirls competing for cash prizes. It’s one of the top 5 indoor rodeos in the country and has 10 different breeds of cattle sales, a two-day horse sale, and seminars for livestock producers, horse enthusiasts, and the general public. There is something for everyone, including concerts, and beer festival. This year’s Black Hills Stock Show® will feature new national horse events kicking off January 15th.

This event is held annually in January at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. At this year’s Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo you can take advantage of deals on booth rentals as well as concessions. There will also be a free petting zoo where children will be able to see farm animals up close and personal.

Cattle Sales

The event typically features 10 different breeds and many high-end bulls and heifers. Livestock producers can sell their animals to thousands of potential buyers and spectators.

Horse Sales

Every year, the Rapid City Stock Show & Rodeo features a two-day horse sale. This is one of the largest horse sales in the region and features both Western and English style horses from all over the country.
Horse lovers will be able to find their perfect match at this event. You can purchase a horse or put your own up for sale. There are also clinics about how to care for your new horse before you take it home.
There are a few rules to know when buying a horse at any type of sale:
1) Know what you want before you go into the sale – If you have an idea what kind of horse you want, make sure to note that on your sales application so you don't waste time looking at horses that aren't suitable for you.
2) Be prepared with cash or credit card – You'll need some form of payment to complete your purchase, so make sure you have either cash or a credit card ready to pay for your new four-legged friend.
3) Check out these tips before going into the show – Make sure you're familiar with all of the rules and regulations that apply to buying a horse before going into the show itself. It's important to know what's expected of buyers and sellers alike in order to avoid any problems or mishaps during this process.

Livestock Seminar

In addition to the livestock seminars, there are educational opportunities for you and your children. In fact, kids 12 and under get in free with an adult. There is a variety of information at the livestock seminars for producers, exhibitors, horse enthusiasts and the general public. Many producers find this event to be an important part of their annual calendar because they can learn about new techniques in animal management or production methods.
