“Hello,” said the voice on the phone. “My name is  Peter Taichovhaz. I know you never expected a call from me, as famous as I am, but I’ve been given your name as someone who can help me.”

Peter Taichovhaz was an internationally-famous artist, who had won many awards.

Regaining her composure, Anna replied, “Great privilege to receive your call, Mr.Taichovhaz. How can I help you?”

“Can you come over to my office today at 5 PM ?”

“Sure. I'll be there!”

Anna, a young student artist, had been striving for a couple of months to ensure that Peter Taichovhaz noticed her work. She had sincerely submitted two of her creations for the Annual Art Awards competition just because he was the judge! Her efforts had borne fruit!

Anna found herself at the Peter Taichovhaz office where she found two of her art-works displayed on the elegant wooden-table in the centre.

One was her sculpture of the buried chairs that she had titled ‘CONFUSION'.

The other was the conical showpiece that she had artistically designed as a staircase titled ‘CONVERGENCE'.

“Admiring your own works of art, eh?” Peter Taichovhaz inquired as he stepped into the room.
He looked a bit worried and surprised meeting Anna for the first time.

“Tell me something about yourself and your family background. Where have you learned art, young lady?”

“After the death of my mother, I was brought up in an orphanage. I have had a very tough childhood. As I love art and you are my idol, I was elated secure a scholarship in the Imperial College of Art to study and try be a great artist like you,” Anna revealed honestly.

“The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of them all.” – Mulan”Was your mother's name ‘Mary Jones'?”

“Yes, indeed! But, how do you know, Mr. Taichovhaz?”

“Because you look exactly like her!”
He continued, “When I was called to judge the student's creations for the Annual Art awards, I was surprised to see these two art-works and wondered about the brains that could conceptualize these. I was amazed to be informed that both the works were created by the same artist.”

“Just take a look at this”, he said handing over an old diary of the year 1997.

In two different pages, the designs of Anna's works – ‘Confusion' and ‘Convergence' were there, neatly described in detail! Even the chair's design and the motifs on the staircase were similar!

“I wanted help to understand how anyone could create what I had designed two decades ago…”

Anna was shocked.
Realization dawned that the ideas behind the works that she had submitted for the competition as her own, actually weren't hers as they had been conceptualized before? But, how was that possible? She had not taken anyone's help or plagiarized Mr. Taichovhaz's works. She never even knew that they existed in his diary…
So many questions crowded her brain…

“You knew my mother?” Anna asked.

“She was my assistant. She used to proof-read my rough-drafts and document them in my diaries. This is her hand-writing!
From now on, you are no longer an orphan. You can call me ‘dad'.”

Have you ever found your ideas existing elsewhere? How did you feel? Do share in the comments below.
