Beyond the game's moment-to-moment action, FIFA 23 Coins predictably focuses its updates on the mode that makes EA its most profit. The microtransaction-ridden Ultimate Team is flush with additions, but Career Mode and Volta Football barely get a look-in, which says much about EA's long-standing attitude to these modes, especially in this supposedly ornamental final FIFA-branded entry.
This is the same issue that we've had when it comes to Madden NFL 23 or NBA 2K23: despite how we hate that they alter the field of play in favor of whoever pays the most, enough people are playing and spending on it that EA keep doubling down on it, instead of the balanced and fair modes we enjoy more.
FIFA 22 heralds the next digital football generation and even though it's not reinventing the ball but the attacking and defense gameplay is fluid and instantaneous. Inconsistencies in goalkeeping and visuals aside the current FIFA is still one of the most enjoyable and nuanced multiplayer sports games available on the market. Additionally, the new features across Career Mode and Volta Football have made FIFA's major modes more fun to play.
