The New York state law says that it is necessary to have the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) masks and gloves to protect the rescuers. The NYC Department of Health developed certain regulations in response to the law. These regulations also require the operators of certain public places to have the CPR equipment available in an accessible area so as to ensure that the patrons or the staff can access it for their use and bring it to the victim within 3 minutes of the occurrence of the accident.

These are the things that you should do to comply

The regulations require you to provide the following equipment and patron notice at your facility:

Equipment:-

  1. Two FDA-approved pediatric (child) exhaled air resuscitation masks
  2. Two FDA-approved adult exhaled air resuscitation masks
  3. Information Label on the equipment
  4. Four pairs of disposable gloves

The equipment has to be placed in an area where it can be accessed easily and can be brought to the victim within 3 minutes from the start of the incident. If the facility is large and there are additional barriers, there should also be additional sets of resuscitation equipment needed so as to meet the 3 minute requirement. The operator should be able to replace the used mask and the gloves within 4 days of the occurrence of an incident.

Resuscitation Equipment NZ:

These are face shields that are approved by the FDA with one-way air valves and are also accepted as equivalents to the exhaled resuscitation masks.

Patron notice

The patrons must be notified that the resuscitation equipment is available and the place where it is kept. They should also be informed about how to receive the CPR training. The notice must be clear and conspicuous to all the patrons when entering the facility or shortly after being seated and before the patrons incur any kind of charges. The notice must meet the necessary requirements.

The Resuscitation Council (UK) has also compiled a list of the minimum equipment that has been suggested so as to support the CPR in the primary care settings. It is true that the individual practice requirements will vary. The list is not comprehensive and should be interpreted on a place to place basis. The items should also be available for immediate use.

Minimum Equipment that is suggested to support the CPR in the GP practices

  • Protective equipment that includes aprons, gloves, eye protection.
  • Pocket mask (adult) along with an oxygen port. This may also be used in the inverted for the infants.
  • Oxygen cylinder along with key where necessary.
  • Automated External Defibrillator NZ – They are available in 2 sizes- adults and infants.
  • Adhesive defibrillator pads – spare set also recommended
  • Oxygen tubing Razor
  • Absorbent towel – to dry chest if necessary
  • Stethoscope

There is also a list of equipment that is recommended for the clinicians who are trained to deal with the patients who are at an increased risk of cardiorespiratory arrest. The Defibrillator NZ should be purchased from the best company.
