Not only is it an established and much-loved form of entertainment, but it's also a medium for teaching and communicating. The love of music can open people to hearing points of view that they don't agree with and ultimately develop a stronger sense of empathy.

The Young Musician Music Institute employs music teachers in the UAE to bring the gift and appreciation of music into the lives of young people. International music might be easily available on the internet, but a sincere appreciation of art comes from understanding. Check out their blog post about modern music education.

Teenagers might say that they love Tove Lo, but do they understand what it is about her that makes them like her music? Are they aware of the genre's history and how a particular song fits into it? Originally, a song may have consisted of a vocalist and a humble set of instruments, but today there's plenty of technology involved in creating the sound we eventually hear.

If you want to get into the music industry, you should consider getting a Trinity music diploma and also narrowing down what kind of music you'd like to make. Here are some of the popular genres:

Rock

Rock is perhaps the most popular genre in music worldwide. In the 1950s,  rock spread through the United States, then to England, and rapidly across Europe. By the 90s, it had hit peak popularity. This notability was so immense that it affected the international music recording industry.

It was considered mainstream music, something that appealed to the many, whereas jazz, country, or folk found themselves shoved into the category of niche interests. Today, the discussion of what is and isn't rock is quite divisive, but if you're interested in creating rock music, go ahead. Simply find a rhythm that captures what rock is to you.

This is something that a music school could help with. To know exactly what we seek to create, we have to understand what we like.

Classical

Classical music is so distinctive that most listeners would know it when they hear it. However, to the untrained ear, certain distinctions go amiss. Beethoven and Mozart created timeless symphonies that have become entwined into the fabric of popular music, but not everything that sounds similar falls into the same category. However, this is an ongoing debate for musicologists.

Some say that Bach, while widely renowned as a classical musician, is actually a creator of “baroque” music. This is because this genre developed slowly and over time with influence from early Christian music and Synagogue chants. However, this isn't a bad thing.

Due to the many branches in the history of the genre, today's listener will find that most music has some glimmer of classical influence. As a musician or aspiring musician, it's important to seek answers and consult professionals to develop your own take on the genre.

Jazz

Jazz is characterized by its signature improvisation, rhythmic play, and compelling beats that come together into a smooth harmony. Under the influence of the blues and classical music, it has gained popularity as a good genre to relax to.

However, the improvisation only goes so far, at least conventionally. Trained musicians can find the distinctive “big four” to identify traditional jazz music.

Hip-Hop and Rap

These genres came about in the 1970s, originally a piece of shared culture between minorities in America. It was used to record and react to the unfair treatment of people of color in the country.

It's categorized by a strong beat and, as far as rap is concerned, meaningful lyrics. Rappers often sing about hardship and struggle, and in modern times, some of them mention the achievements they've made. Today rap is consumed worldwide, and the content of the lyrics no longer bears relevance to whether or not a song sits into this category.

If you want to get into the rap industry, you should mention this to a music teacher. This genre is different from the other two in the sense that it has more defined rules about what counts and what doesn't. To properly create it, you'd need a sound understanding of music and what this particular genre means to its creators and listeners.

All the more reason to register at a music institute.

Can You Succeed in Music Outside of These Genres?

You can succeed working in any music genre as long as you put in the work and you nurture the talent. That means music lessons, which fortunately are plentiful in Abu Dhabi. You'll even find toddlers' music lessons.

If you think instrumental music isn't for you and prefer to create something electronic, then a good music teacher would recommend starting with the basics. Your violin lesson may seem like it has little relevance to your Techno and EDM dreams, but it does.

Instruments may have come a long way since their invention, but they were the only way to make music for a long time apart from vocals. Modern mechanized music may be far more complex, but it was inspired by what you'll learn in your music certificate courses.

While this may not seem like a field that calls for accolades, getting them is still a good idea. It's a fact that to succeed as any kind of artist, you have to have passion, talent, and drive, but it's also a fact that you have to be able to translate all of those into work.

You may be more dedicated to singing than anyone else, and you might be vocally gifted, but you won't be able to compete with formal training.

The Young Musician Music Institute is dedicated to doing justice to an art form beloved by so many. They cater to all genres and teach a variety of instruments. If you need guitar lessons, piano lessons, or singing lessons in Abu Dhabi, you'll surely find what you're looking for at this music institute. Click here to book!
