If your printer is displayed in the unspecified device area and you can't run it, you're not alone in seeing this Windows 10 error. The system's failure to detect the printer is frequently the cause of this problem.
It is typical to have problems with your printing devices, and believe us when we state that no printer is without problems. One issue that causes your printer to be displayed as an unnamed device is that it is unable to perform any functions. When your Windows 10 system is unable to detect the HP printer, this problem arises.
Operate the Windows Troubleshooter to see whether there's a problem with your computer
- In the Windows search box, type Troubleshoot > click Troubleshoot in the search results.
- Wait for the process to complete before restarting your computer to determine if the problem has been resolved.
The printer driver should be updated
- To access the Device Manager, press the Windows logo key + R on your keyboard, then type devmgmt.msc in the Run box and press Enter.
- Click View > Show hidden devices in the top menu.
- Expand the Printers menu, right-click on an appropriate device, and then choose Update driver.
- Alternatively, you can select Uninstall driver, restart the computer, and the printer driver will be immediately reinstalled.
Remove the printer again and reinstall it
- To begin, go to the manufacturer's website and download the most recent driver for your printer.
- To access the Device Manager, press the Windows logo key + R on your keyboard, then type devmgmt.msc in the Run box and press Enter.
- Select Show hidden devices from the View option at the top of the screen.
- Expand the Printers menu, right-click on your device, and select Uninstall device from the selection that appears.
- Disconnect your printer from your computer.
- Click Apps, then locate and uninstall any printer-related applications.
- Select View by Large Icons from the Control Panel.
- Right-click on the printer and select Remove device from the Devices and Printers menu.
- Try executing the setup that you downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
- Connect your device to the computer when prompted that it can't detect the printer, and the installation should resume.
Install the most recent Windows updates
- On your Windows computer, navigate to Start and then Settings.
- Any pending Windows updates will be started as a result of this action.
- When the installation is finished, your system will restart automatically.
Files & folders that are no longer needed should be deleted
- Delete any no longer needed files and directories.
