Microsoft Surface Dock Updater allows you to update a Surface Dock

After installing the Microsoft Surface Dock Updator tool, you will find Microsoft Surface Dock Updator under All Apps within your Start menu. To start the application, click Microsoft Surface Dock Updator.

These steps will help you update your Surface Dock using Microsoft Surface Dock Updater

  1. Click Start to start the firmware upgrade process. You will be asked to connect a Surface Dock if you don’t have one.
  2. Microsoft Surface Dock Updater monitors the status of your Surface Dock firmware.
    • If the tool finds that your Surface Dock’s firmware is up-to-date, a You have the most recent firmware for this Surface Dock message will be displayed. Figure 1.

      Figure 2. Figure 2.
  3. Click Update to begin the firmware upgrade process.
  4. You will be asked for confirmation before the firmware update process starts. To proceed, click OK or Cancel. This will take you to the Surface Dock Firmware page that displays the status of your Surface Dock firmware.
  5. A Progress page will be displayed as the firmware update is uploaded to Surface Dock. Figure 3. While firmware is being uploaded, do not disconnect your Surface Dock.
    Figure 3. Figure 3.
  6. Once the firmware update has been successfully uploaded to your Surface Dock, you will be prompted to unplug and reconnect the Surface Dock with the Surface device. Figure 4 shows this. While the Surface Dock remains disconnected, the main chipset firmware will be applied.

  7. The DisplayPort firmware update will automatically be installed after you have disconnected the Surface Dock. This is done on the Surface Dock hardware even though it’s disconnected. For the firmware to be installed successfully, the Surface Dock must be powered up for at least 3 minutes after being disconnected. A Update In Progress page appears (see Figure 6), and a countdown clock to indicate the remaining time to complete the firmware upgrade installation.

  8. To update multiple Surface Docks at once, click the Update another Surface Dock link to start the process for the next Surface Dock.

Standard warranty for the Surface Hub is 12 months. Extended warranty may be an option. In the case of a malfunction, the standard warranty guarantees that a field engineer will arrive on-site within three days. Extended warranty provides a next-day site visit to ensure your device is back up and running as quickly as possible. CDW and our partner Microsoft offer an extended warranty for the Surface Hub.

The extended warranty for Surface Hub includes:

  • Breakdown: Your extended warranty contract provides unlimited coverage for Breakdown warranty claims, subject to the limitation of liability
  • Shipping to Depot Centres Microsoft will arrange for the removal of the defective Surface Hub and shipment to their depot center. They will also return the Repaired Surface Hub or replacement Surface Hub back to you.

You might consider purchasing an extended warranty and accidental damage coverage if you are considering buying Microsoft’s new Surface Pro 6 in the coming year. This year’s Surface Pro 6 tablet, like many others, has a low repairability score due to Microsoft’s excessive use glue to hold the component and tablet in place. It is difficult to remove the battery and display assembly.

Microsoft offers a standard limited warranty policy for its hardware in the United States. This includes a one year warranty for defects or malfunctions and 90 days technical support for pre-installed software. The standard warranty is not enough. Surface Pro 6 owners who are cautious can purchase extended warranties. Microsoft Complete is its own protection plan that covers two years of coverage for $149.
