The battle for CPU dominance between the legendary Intel and the innovative Advanced Micro Devices has been raging now for decades. It has been a brutal war for market share and supremacy which both companies have fought with tenacity, great marketing skills, and a healthy dose of ruthlessness.
Intel´s obsession for processing brute force was always countered by AMD´s focus on budget-friendly options that offered decent clock speeds for the masses without breaking the bank.
However, this changed radically when the Ryzen 5000 series came out, it gave the boys at Intel a good run for their money. It seemed like AMD would finally take the lead in the market share wars with the highest performing chips out there no matter how you measured them. But Intel wouldn't let this happen, would they?
The counterattack came in the form of the Alder Lake chips which seemed to even out the playing field. Their hybrid architecture allowed Intel to redefine x86 desktop gaming PCs in a fundamental way and deliver incredible performance at the same time.
When put side by side, the Intel i9-9900k and the Ryzen 9 3950x both seemed to have their pros and cons, making it extremely difficult to declare a clear winner.

AMD responded with 16 cores and 32 threads of the Ryzen 9 3950x, surpassing its predecessors and competitors both quantitatively and qualitatively. It provides users the ability to store up to four performance profiles, so you can save your favorite overclocking settings and switch between them depending on your current requirements. This was a blessing for gamers who also needed processing power for work.
For those who are on a budget but are also looking to step up their gaming rigs, AMD released some budget options. The Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X showed that an AMD processor can deliver a lot of multi-threaded bang for your buck.
However, Intel recently unveiled their Comet Lake series and it appears they will come out swinging. With more cores and more threads, the i9-10900k will deliver 5.3GHz, 10 cores, and 20 threads.
Some claim that current generation Intel processors are just an incremental update, and not worth it given how expensive they are. It remains to be seen if this is true or not. For now, Intel is coming up on top in every metric you decide to use for measuring performance and price.
But the race is not over. AMD revealed they are close to releasing a new Zen 3 processor that will boast 192MB of L3 cache and will boost gaming performance by at least 15%. Gaming enthusiasts can´t wait to get their hands on this groundbreaking technology but will have to wait until the end of 2022 to test it.
