This water accumulates in a plastic reservoir before being gravity-fed through a slanted drain tube and emptied outside the home. 

 

WHAT COULD GO WRONG? 

When the air conditioner turns on, a clogged central AC drain pipe, frequently caused by algae or mold development in the condensate collection pan, may swiftly overflow. Because the pan is beneath the air handler, residents may not detect the continued overflow until significant water damage to the floor and adjoining space has occurred. 

 

A safety sensor in a high-efficiency furnace detects obstructions in the water drain tube. If the drainage ceases, the sensor will shut down the unit. The heating function cannot be reactivated until an HVAC service professional clears the obstruction. 

 

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. 

A trained HVAC contractor's annual preventative maintenance involves repairing plumbing issues that may damage heating and cooling systems. The service includes an inspection and cleaning to ensure that the AC condensate pan and drain pipe, as well as the high-efficiency furnace drain system, are operating properly.
