The cat's head, cheeks, and neck are the best body parts to pet or stroke. The majority of cats enjoy having their ears and chin rubbed because those areas have scent glands that create pheromones that make them feel good.
Together with the top of the head, the region behind the ears is also an excellent location. Most cats enjoy being petted with gentle strokes, using the tips of the fingers, not the whole hand. They also like rubbing their cheeks, which helps them mark their territory and communicate with other cats.
The neck is another favorite spot, as it is a sensitive area where cats have many nerve endings. The lower back, tummy, and tail should not be petted as much as possible as these areas are frequently sensitive and can make some cats feel uncomfortable or aggressive.
