This week, the impressive OnePlus 6 has finally become official, which means we can all decide whether or not to buy it – and compare it to some of the best phones we've seen this year … like the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Here we have a detailed comparison of these two flagships from 2018 in all important areas – the appearance, the internal components and even whether they have a headphone jack or not. Continue reading to find out which phone comes out at the top.

You'll have a hard time recognizing the bezels on the fronts of one of these phones, even though the OnePlus 6 has a distinctive notch at the top of the screen – something that Samsung has not yet done with its Galaxy Series.

The phones are physically similar in size, but the OnePlus 6 cuts it in terms of screen size, on a huge 6.28-inch screen compared with the Samsung Galaxy S9 5.8-inch screen. It's worth noting that the resolution on Samsung's phone is higher, so you'll get sharper graphics and text.

Both phones have gone for glass on the back, which tracks many fingerprints, but probably results in a more elastic landing when dropped onto the floor. However, you can get the Galaxy S9 in six different colors, while the OnePlus 6 sticks with two black variants and a limited white version.

Unless you are a big fan of the notch (or really do not like it), there is not much difference in terms of phone design – both phones are slim and compact glass plates. With the OnePlus 6, however, you get a little more screen space, and it's also thinner – 7.8 mm compared to 8.5 mm.

These two powerhouse phones both feature Qualcomm's latest and best Snapdragon 845 processor, although in some regions Samsung offers the largely comparable Exynos 9810 it manufactures. However, with the Samsung Galaxy S9 you can only get 4GB of RAM, while the OnePlus 6 increases that to 6GB or 8GB.

The same internal storage options are available – 64GB, 128GB or 256GB – but on the Samsung mobile phone you can extend that via a microSD card. There is no such option on the OnePlus 6, so you're done with the amount of storage you buy.

As for the camera, the Galaxy S9 is equipped with a 12-megapixel snap, while the OnePlus 6 is equipped with a 16-megapixel camera and 20 megapixel camera on the back. On paper you might think OnePlus would win by default, but the Samsung phone also needs some excellent snapshots, so it's also about honors.

One final specification that you might want to know is Battery Size: 3,000mAh for the Samsung Galaxy S9 and 3,300mAh for the OnePlus 6. With so many other factors affecting battery life, not least screen size, there is not much between these phones here either.

Traditionalists will love the fact that both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the OnePlus 6 have retained the 3.5mm headphone jack, so you do not have to buy a new pair of wireless earphones to listen to your music or your favorite podcasts.

Elsewhere Samsung has given its Galaxy S9 an IP68 rating – pretty much the highest rating one can get for watertightness and dust tightness – but OnePlus will only say that his phone is “waterproof”, so we suspect a dunk in the bathroom Could cause problems.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 also has the benefit of wireless charging, something you will not get with the OnePlus 6. Both phones have their proprietary fast-charging systems installed, so users will not have to wait that long for your phone to recover.

Both phones come with Android 8.x Oreo on board, although the OnePlus 6 was invited by Google to the Android P beta – this invitation was not extended to Samsung for the time being.
