Novice dog owners may be challenged by the activeness and high energy levels of Pointers. These dogs are developed to help hunters detect, chase, and catch game birds. Because of this purpose, Pointers have become exceedingly competitive, agile, and strong. And these traits may be overwhelming for people who don’t have any experience yet in handling active dogs.
Pointers excel not only in the wild as hunting dogs but also in dog sporting events, like agility tests, rallies, obedience tests, and field trials. They love to be the subject of everyone’s attention – making them effective show dogs.
When you plan to take a Pointer as a pet, you should be ready to give him the following things:
- Consistent and regular training sessions
- Daily play sessions that’d go for an hour or two
- Daily walks
- Other vigorous exercises that’ll give him physical and mental stimulation
If you can’t commit to these, don’t adopt a Pointer. But if you’re willing to allot time, effort, and money for him, go for it. In return, you’ll enjoy having a loving and loyal companion.
