WordCraft is our daily word guessing game at /wordcraft. A new secret word goes live every day. You get up to 5 rounds to figure it out — the more clues you need, the fewer points you score. You can play one word per day.
How the rounds work
You start with the thinnest clue and unlock a more generous one each round you miss:
- Round 1 — Category. We tell you what broad bucket the word belongs to (e.g. "emotion," "tool," "weather").
- Round 2 — Context. A real sentence from a WriteUpCafe writeup with the word blanked out.
- Round 3 — Hint. How many letters the word has and which letter it starts with.
- Round 4 — Definition. A direct dictionary-style definition.
- Round 5 — Reveal. Partial letters are filled in. This is your last chance.
After each round, type your guess in the input and click Guess. If you're wrong, click Next Clue to unlock the next round. If you're right, the game ends and you're scored based on how many clues you needed.

Streaks
Play two days in a row and your streak increments. Skip a day and your streak resets to 1 on your next play. Your current streak shows next to your name on the daily leaderboard.
Today's leaderboard
The right side of the game page shows the top 10 players for today's word, ranked by score. Each row shows the player's name, score, and current streak (if it's greater than 1). The leaderboard resets every day when the new word goes live.
Sharing your result
After you finish, a share menu appears with options for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and a Copy to Clipboard button. Logged-in members also see a Post to Feed button that creates an activity in your followers' feeds — great for bragging about a round-1 solve.
Yesterday's word
Below today's game, you can see yesterday's word, its pronunciation, category, definition, the sentence it came from, and a link to the original writeup. Good for catching up on what you missed or learning a new word you didn't know.
Rules and limits
- One play per word per day. You can't retry once you've submitted your final answer.
- Guest visitors can play too — your streak tracks by browser session until you log in.
- The word is the same for every player on any given day, so the leaderboard is a fair comparison.
- There is no time limit per round.
